The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control

Case Studies - The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
Facility Size: 120,000 Square Feet

Challenge:

The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control has outgrown the present 120,000 square foot facility located in Salt Lake City. The Department supports 36 stores and approximately 100 package agencies. Storage and order fulfillment areas are not adequate to support the projected service requirements and productivity within the existing facility.

Solution:

Trommer & Associates worked extensively on site in order to conduct reviews and interviews with key management and operations personnel. Present and projected storage capacities and order fulfillment requirements were analyzed by the Trommer project team. This review resulted in the development of a detailed plan for expansion of the existing Daifuku AS/RS System and included a new internal equipment layout including operational improvements, such as Voice Directed Picking. The new facility layout is based upon the utilization of proven, practical Material Handling Solutions that will support projected service and SKU growth.

Benefits:

Based upon the layout and recommendations provided by our project team, The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control obtained budget costs for all aspects of the modernization project. This information was utilized and presented to the State of Utah Legislators for approval to proceed.

Recommendations for implementation of a Voice Directed Picking System and new and relocated Material Handling equipment has reduced labor requirements and improved customer service.

The layout and recommendations resulted in increased inbound and outbound product flow through the existing Daifuku AS/RS System.
